Following a study commissioned by Henderson Group and its refrigeration partner, Portglenone Refrigeration Services Ltd (PRS), the Group has committed to equipping its entire in-store freezer fleet with Clarifoil® anti-fog film.
Recognising that condensation on freezer doors seriously affects product visibility and consumer selection, specialists at Henderson chose Clarifoil anti-fog film after evaluating a number of possible solutions.
Glen Crumley of Henderson Group said, "We chose Clarifoil from a range of options, not only because it proved to be the best solution for maintaining the clarity of the glass, but also because it enabled us to make considerable energy savings by reducing the energy consumed by the freezer door heating systems."
As part of the study, PRS measured the benefits of installing adjustable controls on all Henderson Group freezers - designed to precisely control the power delivered to each individual freezer unit.
Clarifoil anti-fog film can maintain the clarity of freezer doors even when the energy consumption of the door heater is reduced by 75%, saving up to 6 kWh per freezer door per day. An annual energy saving of 1,100 megawatt hours justified the outlay in terms of return on investment, even before taking into account the increase in sales generated by the improved product presentation.
Henderson Group and PRS chose PFS Global to install Clarifoil because of their proven experience. Andrew Dunwoody of PRS said: "PFS was an obvious choice due to their experience of installing Clarifoil in a food distribution environment. The installation teams were extremely professional and efficient, completing the work across the Group's facilities in just 10 working days.
The project, which involved installing Clarifoil on over 550 existing doors, was carried out during the shop's normal opening hours, with minimal disruption to its day-to-day business, and was completed ahead of schedule.
